Prime Minister Modi accorded ceremonial welcome to the Maldives

Prime Minister of India, His Excellency Shri Narendra Modi, was accorded a ceremonial welcome to the Maldives on Friday afternoon.

The ceremony commenced at the Republic Square, where His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu formally received Prime Minister Modi. Students of Aminiya School presented a cultural performance, followed by a 21-gun salute by Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF). The national anthems of India and the Maldives were played, followed by a Guard of Honour, and the presentation of host and visiting delegation dignitaries.

This is Prime Minister Modi’s first state visit to the Maldives since assuming his third term in office.

President renames Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation Limited to Visit Maldives Corporation Limited

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has renamed the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation Limited to Visit Maldives Corporation Limited. This change was formalised today through a Presidential Decree issued under Act No. 19/2025.

The company was established to support the Government’s efforts to expand and diversify the tourism sector. Its core role is to promote the country as a world-class tourist destination. These efforts are delivered through focused, continuous, and sustainable marketing initiatives.

Embassy of Maldives co-hosts a tourism promotional event in Brussels

The Embassy of Maldives in Brussels co-hosted a tourism promotional event in Brussels, today. The event was co-hosted with the Embassy of Bhutan and Embassy of Sri Lanka in Belgium, with the title ‘The Enchanting Trio’.

The event held at the prestigious De Warande Club, was attended by over 100 officials, including senior officials from the Government of Belgium, the European Union and Tour Operators based in Brussels.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Geela presented a brief outline of the sustainable tourism industry of the Maldives and highlighted the Government’s efforts to diversify the industry further in efforts to cater to all types of travellers.

The Chief Guest, Deputy Managing Director at the European External Action Service, Madam Paola Pampaloni also made a short remark at the event. In her speech, she expressed appreciation for the initiative taken by the Embassies of Bhutan, Maldives and Sri Lanka and reiterated her support to promote their tourism industries.  

The Ambassador of Bhutan to Belgium, Tshoki Choden, and the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Belgium, Chandana Weerasena, also made remarks presenting their countries at the event.

The European market has remained a key source market for the Maldives, with European tourists making 59 percent of overall tourists visiting the Maldives. The main purpose of this event was to increase European travellers to the Maldives by providing up-to date information on travel, resorts, guesthouses, culture and cuisine of the Maldives.

At the event, three exclusive raffles were conducted to award vacation stays in Bhutan, the Maldives, and Sri Lanka. Among the winners, Ms. Françoise Masson was selected for a five-night stay at the Holiday Home Dhiffushi, Maldives.

This is the first time the Embassy of Maldives in Brussels has taken initiative to host a tourism event in Belgium. The Embassy would like to recognize and express appreciation to the Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources, Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation, Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company, the Honorary Consul of Maldives to Flanders, Mr. Gerard Huiting, Horizon Fisheries and Holiday Home Dhiffushi for their support in organizing this event.
